M. no Answer having been received from the shore, I weighed in the 'Wood Cracker' (which draws less water than the 'Grasshopper') and having taken on board the General, two local Mandarins, the Captain of the Junk with some of her men and our own seamen, steamed inshore as close as the shoal water would allow
Here the General again expressed a wish to remain, until some information had been received from the shore, but having
